Abstract/Summary Statement
The Stream Metabolism Program is a stand-alone executable computer program written in Visual Basic.NET®, which runs in the Microsoft Windows® environment. The program calculates gross primary production, net ecosystem production, respiration, and selected other variables from continuous measurements of DO, T, and other user-supplied information. Data from either a single station or paired (upstream, downstream) stations can be used in the SMP to calculate metabolism variables.

The equations and assumptions used in the development of the software are documented in this report. Detailed guidance on application of the software is then presented, along with a summary of the data required to use the software.
