Brief Method Summary
A portion of well-mixed sample is dried at 105oC. A portion of dry, well-mixed sample is carefully weighed and then ignited at 550oC. The loss of weight on ignition represents the amount of volatile solids in the sample.
Scope and Application
This method may be used to analyze samples of bottom material. Usually, only the material that will pass a 2-mm sieve is taken for analysis.
