Brief Method Summary
MaxSignal(R) Malachite Green Test Kit (Water Sample) is a column-based separation method for rapid qualitative and quantitative analysis of Malachite Green in water samples from fishbowls or fishponds. Malachite green (Basic Green 4) has been widely used all over the world in the fish farming industry as a fungicide, ectoparasiticide and disinfectant. However, it has been shown recently that Malachite Green is highly cytotoxic to mammalian cells and also acts as a liver tumor-enhancing agent. This has led to a prohibition of Malachite Green for the treatment of fish used for food production.

Since the Malachite Green spiked in fishbowls or fishponds can be rapidly absorbed and accumulated by fish it is important to monitor the Malachite Green concentration in water samples. MaxSignal? Malachite Green Test Kit (Water Sample) enables government agencies, seafood processors as well as quality assurance organizations to detect Malachite Green in water sample of fishbowls or fishponds in answer to customer concerns for food safety.
